85's v Waiuku roundup

Wednesday 12 July 2017

Last Saturday the 85's took on Waiuku at the Drury complex in the last game of the round robin competition. You would have thought that with Drury already locked into the fourth playoff spot it was a game with little to play for - but thats not the attitude Waiuku brought with them - or that Drury produced on the day.

The rain clouds parted and the sun came out for the 1.00pm kick off in front of a sizeable crowd that grew as the game went on. Drury came out firing and soon put a couple of tries on Waiuku with the speed and skill of the players on show. Waiuku came back with a couple of penalties to which Drury responded with another try. With a handy lead Drury went into the break feeling good. The second half saw the introduction of some reserves which alowed Waiuku to have a dominant period of there own. Drury fought back strongly and traded tries to run out eventual winners.

Aftermatch mentions went to Brad and Stuart, for totally different reasons.

Well done to Waiuku for the game and the big turnout for the speaches, looking forward to catching up again next season.

As a lead up to the semi this Saturday it was a good game to have. Plenty of good stuff but room for improvement, plenty of tries but work to be done defending the try line and keeping the oppostion out.

This Saturday the opposition are a Patumahoe side that has won the competition the last two seasons and look on track for the threepete. They have beaten Drury both times during the year but not convincingly, scoring more points but allowing Drury into the game for long periods. This is Drurys chance to turn the tables on them in a must win game for both teams and a shot at the trophy next week.

The game is at Patumahoe with a 1.00pm kick off. See you there.

The pressies have their last game of the scheduled season at Weymouth, also with a 1.00pm kick off.
