Two more gone.....Two to go!

Tuesday 04 July 2017

Not a lot to report rugby-wise last weekend. The 85's had the bye and the pressies had a default against Kura. To be fair, Papakura had four players and Drury twelve, but common sense and some hangovers had the game called off.

The hangovers were due to the night before being the 'Boys Night' at the club. This has been an annual team fundraiser for a number of years with varrying degrees of success. I think this year was a whole lot better than recent times, with a good crew there to enjoy themselves. Well done to the pressies and those from the 85's that were involved.

The week before (24th) saw Drury hosting Patumahoe 85's and Pukekohe pressies. Both games were played at 1.00pm, so the pressies headed over to the complex, leaving the 85's full use of a very muddy Domain. The surface was a great leveller for the Paty boys, a team that has won the comp the last two years. They managed to get four tries to Drury's one and ran out 22-5 winners. The mud was the winner on the day, with the Domain field remaining closed till further notice.

The pressies were somewhat ambushed by Puke, who managed to get their own ref on the field to even things up. With the "friendship cup' once again up for grabs, Puke brought their A game and ran out winners 5 tries to 4. Well done Puke, but not sure you will be able to pull that one off again in the near future. Drury took a few minuites to get over the shock of the loss, but still managed a few laughs with the opposition at the aftermatch.

This week there is no game for the Pressies but the 85's have a home game against Waiuku. The top four has already been decided, with Drury locked into the fourth spot, with Waiuku being unable to pass them even if they should win. So a bit of a "dead rubber" as it were, but Waiuku have shown during the season that they are more than capable of knocking over any team in the comp. The game will be played at 1.00pm at either of the two Drury venues, depending on the state of the fields. The Domain still looks like its ready for potato planting, so odds are the game will be at the complex.

This will be the teams last run before an away semi-final next week, with the opposition still to be determined. Get on down to the game and get behind the team in what should be grand game.

See you there.
