85's v Onewhero roundup

Tuesday 30 May 2017

The 85's headed up the hill last Sat for the first game of the second round. They beat Whero first-up for the season and so travelled away quietly confident, even though Whero had just lost to Ard-Marist last week 3-0.

An early try gave the team the start they wanted but a serious injury to one of the Whero boys 15min into the game saw both teams having a long break. It wasn't till the schoolboy game on the number two field finished that play could restart, although golden oldies scrums were the call with the opposition hooker out. (hope he's ok whero).

Lots of sideline banter from the Whero subs and supporters seemed to spur the Drury players and they kicked on for a comfortable win. Not that it was easy for them. The Onewhero players were hard to break through with their strong defence and it was some great tries from broken play that got Drury home. The ref commented after the game that he felt it was the more structured play from Drury that stood out for him. Final score 24-0.

Brad Cochrane was named player of the day for Drury at the aftermatch, the standout in a strong forward showing once again.. Hope your head is ok Brad, after a few bad attempts to break a soggy crate back at Drury later on. (no blue card was issued so he's good to go this week)

This week the team takes on Ardmore at home at 1.00pm. They lost to them in the first round and are super keen to reverse that. Make sure you wear some long sprigs for the Drury conditions boys.

No game for the pressies 'cause its Qeeny's birthday.

See you saturday.............
